Desigen

T490 provides a sturdy look with the 14 inch Dolby Vision Display® high dynamic range of technology with WQHD panel that allows it to boast brightness, expand contrast and display of refined colors. Giving thinner and lighter looks with the fast performance of whiskey like CPU. The display panel is full HD IPS 1920p by 1080p touch screen while brightness is around 300 minutes more than in the previous edition. For those who use the device outdoors, the matte anti-glare panel back is good on display with an excellent contrast ratio in direct sunlight that picture appears a bit grainy not uncommon for matte panels. Adobe RGB is average at 62% but sufficient for typical glossy Dobby Vision WQHD HDR panel at 500 nits with 100% SRGB in ADOBE RGB. Be warned that HDR will eat into th e battery life compared to frugal 1080p panels with full HD privacy guard and full HD low power panels the bezels have been reduced by 22% on the T490 compared T480.

Body

The body may sum up an idea for the display, on the right side you have the smart card reader USB 3.1 JIM, an RJ45 Ethernet and a Kensington lock slot. While on the left side T490 presents USB C AC power lock, 1.4 headphones, and dual-mic combo, Micro SD reader, USB C Thunderbolt 3, USB C 3.1 JIM and HDMI. At the back you’ll experience Micro SIM slot for LTE 4g connectivity on the go, Bluetooth 5.0 along with INTEL wireless AC V960 card, the wireless connectivity is strong throughout, tried and tested by 2 AC Adapter, it may stream Spotify music to nearby Bluetooth speakers results very smooth and stable. The bottom of the laptop is hard to open and secured by six screws. There is no NFC, instead 2 USB C-ports combined to allow your optional ThinkPad PRO docking station for additional ports and external display options. Generous port selection NOVA has kept tried and tested port selection from T480 a full-size gigabit Ethernet is always useful when WIFI might be patchy or slow.

Keyboard

When it comes to keyboard T490 has undoubtedly incredible result, very comfortable and efficient, it has also been called Cadillac of keyboards in one of the reviews.  Keyboard hasn’t changed much from T480
Cupped keys with perfect key travel two levels of backlight keys on a split resistant keyboard that you beg with TISS THINKPAD TRACKPOINT, the red pointer knob is present in the middle of the keyboard along with its own physical buttons above touchpad smooth
Microsoft precision drivers multi-gesture is supported, and buttons click quietly on the 10 X 6.8 cm pad.
Keyboard has a gentle convex very ergonomic good essential travel, white backlighting not giving any trampoline effect. The trackpad is on board, and usual nap points a race mystic pointer in the keypad. Keypad has right size long key travel and precise quite keystroke.

Speakers

A new feature on T490 is the user-facing jeweled 2-watt speakers above the keyboard ADOBE AUDIO PREMIUM has managed to provide a good quality speaker for daily use. It is reliable with sound quality and range during a movie or conference.

Webcam

720p Webcam with think shutter privacy slider in dual far field microphones allow video conferencing with your colleagues, video quality is average but acceptable one if we take cognizance of change from the T480 engineers have tweaked the slider mechanism on the T490 making it far more fiddly to slide open and shut hence, you don’t have to do this too often.

Privacy

Security fast online identity FIDO, authentic capabilities D TPM 2.0 secure match on-chip touch print reading next to the touchpad think shutter for webcam privacy an optional IR camera above the display, optional privacy guard display, smart card authentication, and Kensington lock is available. There is a fingerprint sensor below the keypad, which is optional. LENOVO has been using fingerprint sensor from a very long time now, unfortunately, it’s not that good as IR camera for Windows Hello facial recognition, which in my opinion is more secure.

Processor

Intel disk late 8th generation i7865u Quad Core 16 gigabyte of DDR4 RAM 8 GB onboard 512gb m.2 SSD NVMe, Sampson PM 981.2 with 3000 megabytes per second read and 1800mb per second write UHD graphics 620 and very responsive from the combination of S7 CPU 16 GB of ram and far Samson SSD.

Battery

CPU is not fattened on battery power unlike the HP overzealous thermal management in quiet mode on battery power the fan never kicked in a while working on an office suite or checking emails, videos, suffering, and even binge-watching Netflix. It might give some sound once in a while, depending on the amount of work done and time consumed. Internal 50 WATT hour battery that is now nonremovable to compensate there is rapid charging feature juicing up from MT to 42% on about 30 minutes, 73 % in an hour and 2hrs approx, to fully charged use in a 65 WATT AC adapter. Battery life is between 6 to 7 hours under load expected. Battery is non-swappable in previous model it allowed you to swap batteries for long hour use instead, T490 is moving in the same direction as smartphones in rapid charging, it might also give an advantage of carrying less stuff in your backpack while travelling up at mountain using ThinkPad T490.

Working Station

T490 can drive a total of three different screens by HDMI thunderbolt 3, ThinkPad T490 slimmer and lighter than ever bring it closer to its more expensive cousin the X1CARBON (WQHD resolution IPS wide gamut display) less upgrade option controversially T490 has 8GB or 16GB of salted on memory there’s now another memory slot than two in T480 max of 48GB. The second hard drive caddy has also disappeared on the t480.

Storage Space

In THINKPAD T490, Lenovo has equipped TOSHIBA M.2 2280 SSD. The PCIe NVMe drive has astounding transfer speeds. When making one of the main decisions of graphic cards, you need to look after if you need the additional graphics performance that a dedicated GPU brings. The system cannot get quite as much performance from its INTEL GPU when running in single-channel mode, but the difference is negligible in daily use. The Core i5-8265U- powered and dual-channel ThinkPad T490s is 7% faster than others in T-series. The T490 does not limit its GPU performance on battery.

Gaming

The UHD GRAPHICS 620 is only powerful enough to handle undemanding old games which are playable at minimum graphics. The Thunderbolt 3 port that Lenovo has included utilizes two lanes of PCIe, which is not enough to get excellent performance from external GPU. T490 may provide an option of the excellent battery and display while playing some low power consuming games.

Warranty

Generous three-year warranty x-sleeker design is at the detriment of flexibility ThinkPad diehards will turn up their noses at the use of soldered ram the removal of second storage bay and the flexible power bridge feature for the rest of us the ThinkPad t490 is Swiss army knife of a business laptop highly dependable reliable sturdy.

Comparison

We may compare ThinkPad T490 2019 with HP ELITEBOOK, DELL XPS, its sibling LENOVO COMBOBOX1 and of course the previous version LENOVO THINKPAD T480 by which you’ll have a clear image for T490 as it may seem much less embarrassing with new options where engineers have definitely worked on weak points giving smarter and thinner look and other noticeable changes in processor and ports
